Roberto Carlos

Roberto Carlos is one of football’s greatest ever left-backs. The Brazil and Real Madrid legend was famous for his tough tackling and powerful left foot strike.

We were approached to create a brand for Roberto Carlos to use for the many promotional and charitable causes he has been involved in since retiring from playing professional football.

Challenge

Roberto and his management team wanted to create an iconic motif, something that would be equally at home working alongside commercial and sporting brands, as well as charitable initiatives. Our creative exploration lead us in the direction of Roberto’s most memorable moment – the breathtaking and science-defying free kick he scored for Brazil against France in the summer of 1997.

Solution

We created the RC3 motif, which combines Roberto’s initials with the number 3 shirt he wore during his eleven years at Real Madrid. The form of the 3 takes inspiration from the unbelievable swerve of Roberto’s most famous free kick. A supporting palette of typography, colour and photographic treatment amplify the motif across all applications.
